Richard Roper, Head Coach – Varsity
Coach Ricky Roper brings 26 years of experience coaching boys and girls high school basketball, including 19 years as a Head Boys Varsity Coach, to Troy. Coach Roper went to high school in Tucson, Arizona, and then played collegiately for Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas from 1995-99. Coach Roper was a member of the school’s first men’s team to qualify for the NAIA National Tournament in 1999. From 2003-2010, Coach Roper was the Head Boy’s Varsity Coach for Nogales High School in La Puente, California. During this time the Nogales Nobles advanced to the 2008 CIF Quarterfinals and the 2009 CIF Semi Finals. Coach Roper was named the 2009 San Gabriel Valley Tribune Coach of the Year while at Nogales. From 2010 to 2022, Coach Roper was the Head Boys Varsity Coach for Gahr High School in Cerritos, California. During this time, the Gahr Gladiators won the 2011 CIF Championship and advanced to the 2015 CIF Finals. Coach Roper was named the CIF Division 2 Coach of the Year in 2011, and the San Gabriel Valley League Coach of the Year in 2015 and 2017. From 2022 to 2025, Coach Roper helped coach the Girls Varsity Basketball Team at Gahr. During this time the Lady Gladiators advanced to the CIF Finals in 2023 and the CIF Semi Finals in 2025. Coach Roper has also been a social studies teacher for 27 years, teaching World and U.S History, as well as Economics/Civics. Coach Roper is very grateful for the opportunity to continue his coaching career here at Troy High School.

Jad Khoury, Assistant Coach – Varsity
Coach Jad Khoury will be going into his sixth year of coaching high school basketball. He has also been an English Teacher for seven years. Coach Khoury went to Sonora High School, where he played basketball and football during his four years. During his playing career at Sonora, Coach Khoury had the joy of being part of many league championship and playoff teams.
After graduating from Cal State Long Beach, Coach Khoury worked as an Assistant Boys Freshman Coach at California High School in Whittier, California. He has worked his way up every year since. Coach Khoury was the Head Boys Freshman, JV, Strength and Conditioning, and Varsity Assistant Coach in consecutive years at Gahr High School in Cerritos, California. Coach Khoruy was a Varsity Boys Assistant that contributed greatly to the Gahr Gladiators winning a league championship in 2024. Coach Khoury is very excited to share the wealth of knowledge he has accumulated from being part of so many successful teams, both as a player and coach, with Troy High School. Coach Khoury is married to his lovely wife, Amber, and they have a beautiful one and a half year old daughter, Ava.
William Ho, Assistant Coach – Varsity
Coach William Ho brings seven years of coaching experience to the court, with a strong focus on player development and team culture. A Marina High School alumnus (Class of 2018), William’s background also includes two years playing at Mater Dei High School, shaping his approach to coaching and mentorship.
He is the High School Director for TQ Basketball CLUB and has coached at both Gahr High School and Fountain Valley High School. Coach Ho is a rising star in both the Club and high school basketball coaching circles. Troy High School is very excited to add Coach Ho to their family.
Jayson Gilliam, Head Coach – Junior Varsity
Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, Jayson brings with him several years of coaching experience at the youth and AAU club levels. A graduate of Mt. Aloysius College (PA), Jayson was a two-sport athlete, playing basketball and baseball, but it is also where he developed a passion for mentoring the youth. In addition to skill development, Jayson has a fairly extensive background in strength and conditioning training. Placing a firm emphasis on fundamentals and hard work, he has an unwavering approach, passion, and commitment to the development of athletes both on and off the court, traits he credits his parents Eugene and Shirley Gilliam for instilling in him.
